This Fourth of July, the Story community came together once again to celebrate America's 250th birthday in true Story fashion with good food, friendly competition, and neighbors helping neighbors. The 2026 Story Lions Club Picnic in the Park was a resounding success, and it marked a special milestone: the very first 4th of July event sponsored by Story Lions Club, with support from the Story Garden Club.

Fun for the Whole Family

The picnic brought out the community spirit that Story is known for, with something for everyone to enjoy. A costume contest had folks showing off their most creative red, white, and blue looks, while a full lineup of kids' games kept the younger crowd running, laughing, and competing during the event.

The highlight for many was the tug of war, a best-of-three showdown that had teams digging in their heels until the final pull decided it. Every game had winners walking away with patriotic prizes, which only seemed to fuel the competitive fire, kids were back in line for the next event before the last one was even over.

Community Organizations Show Up and Show Out

No Story event would be complete without the many local organizations that make it happen. The PEO Chapter had a presence at the picnic, and the Story Lions Club was selling raffle tickets for their annual gun raffle, with the drawing set to take place during Story Days.

A special thank you goes out to the Story Volunteer Fire Department, who generously lent their equipment and cooking grill so the Lions Club could serve up food for the whole community.

What Makes Story Special

More than the games, the prizes, or even the free food, this event was a reminder of what truly sets Story, Wyoming apart: its volunteers. From the Story Lions Club, to the Story Garden Club to the PEO Chapter, to the Story Woman’s Club and the Story Volunteer Fire Department, so many people gave their time to make this day possible. That spirit of service is woven into everything this community does, and it's what turns a simple picnic in the park into a signature event the whole town looks forward to.
