Christi Barnett’s Nissi Massage in Banner, Wyoming, is a testament to her commitment to healing and wellness. With a unique background shaped by outdoor adventures, military service, and a passion for holistic health, Christi has built a thriving massage therapy practice that’s making a difference in people’s lives. Her journey to Banner and her dedication to helping others through massage therapy is a story of resilience, learning, and community connection.

A Childhood of Exploration and Learning
Christi’s love for the outdoors began in her childhood, growing up back east. Whether she was riding horses, hunting, fishing, or exploring nature, she thrived in the freedom of the open air. Homeschooled and a natural self-learner, Christi’s curiosity and drive to master new skills laid the foundation for her future endeavors. These early experiences of independence and discovery would later shape her approach to her career and her commitment to helping others.
Discovering Banner, Wyoming
Christi’s path to Banner, Wyoming, began with a serendipitous stop during a trip from Montana to attend a Bible camp. Pausing at an overlook just outside of Story, she was captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the Banner valley. In that moment, she knew she wanted to call this place home. The serene landscape and tight-knit community of Banner became the backdrop for her next chapter.
From Military Service to Holistic Healing
Before settling in Banner, Christi served four years in the U.S. Army as a Black Hawk Crew Chief and Gunner Operator, including two years stationed in South Korea, where she met her husband, also a military member. Her time in the service instilled discipline and adaptability, qualities that would later fuel her entrepreneurial spirit.
Christi’s journey into massage therapy was sparked by a deeply personal mission. When her mother was battling leukemia, Christi dove into researching naturopathic medicine to improve her mom’s quality of life. This exploration led her to study eastern medicine, energy fields, and less invasive healing methods. Her curiosity and desire to help others through holistic practices set her on a path to becoming a massage therapist.
Building Nissi Massage
After moving to Banner, Christi began working with Dr. Zoe Loyd at Buffalo Chiropractic in Buffalo, Wyoming. Recognizing a need for massage therapy, especially during the busy summer months, Christi seized the opportunity to further her expertise. Using her G.I. Bill benefits, she enrolled at Sheridan College to study massage therapy, building on her existing certification in equine massage therapy. This synergy with Buffalo Chiropractic proved mutually beneficial, as Dr. Loyd referred clients to Christi, allowing her to grow her practice while providing valuable care.
Today, Christi runs Nissi Massage, specializing in Swedish massage techniques. Her practice focuses on restoring balance and relieving tension, helping clients feel their best. Her website, nissi-massage.massagetherapy.com, offers a wealth of information for those curious about the benefits of massage therapy.
The Power of Massage Therapy
Despite its many benefits, massage therapy is often misunderstood as a luxury rather than a vital component of wellness. Christi is passionate about changing this perception. “Massage therapy does so much more than just feel good,” she explains. “It’s a powerful tool for stress relief and boosting the immune system, which are critical for preventive health.”
Tight muscles can lead to joint pain and other issues, but regular massage sessions can alleviate these problems, helping people live healthier, more active lives. Christi emphasizes that incorporating massage into a wellness routine doesn’t have to be overwhelming. “Once your body is in a better state, a monthly session can do wonders for maintenance,” she says.
Overcoming Barriers
One of the biggest hurdles to regular massage therapy is cost. At approximately $80 per session, many view it as an expense rather than an investment in their health. Christi encourages people to rethink this mindset. “Massage therapy is about quality of life,” she says. “By budgeting for it and understanding its benefits, you’re investing in feeling better and staying healthier long-term.”
A Commitment to Community
Christi’s diverse background, from her military service to her expertise in equine and human massage therapy, makes her a unique asset to Banner. Her love for a challenge and her desire to understand each client’s individual needs drive her work. Whether she’s helping someone recover from physical tension or supporting their overall wellness, Christi is dedicated to improving lives.
As a veteran and a small business owner, Christi is a valued member of the Banner community. Her approachable demeanor and commitment to holistic health make Nissi Massage a go-to for those seeking relief and rejuvenation.
