Story Days 2026 Kicks Off Today — Come Celebrate “Story the Beautiful”

Story Days officially kicks off today, Friday, August 28, beginning a full weekend of food, music, community traditions and activities throughout Story.

This year’s theme is “Story the Beautiful,” a fitting celebration of our mountain community as America marks its 250th anniversary.

Story Days is one of those annual traditions that only happens because people are willing to step forward, volunteer their time and work together.

This year’s Story Days Committee is under the leadership of Megan Decker, owner of Nola Catering & Private Dining. Megan and the committee have worked extremely hard to organize this year’s celebration and keep this important Story tradition going.

When you see committee members and volunteers throughout the weekend, be sure to thank them. A tremendous amount of work happens behind the scenes before Story Days ever begins.

Friday’s Story Days Schedule

There is plenty happening around Story today:

2:00–8:00 p.m. — Lions Club Raffle Ticket Sales at the Story Store

Stop by the Story Store, or find the Lions Club booth to purchase your raffle tickets and support the Story Lions Club.

4:00 p.m. until gone — Hamburgers and Hot Dogs at the Story Store

Be sure to come hungry.

The Story Store will be serving tasty hamburgers and hot dogs beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until they’re gone.

The Story Store, owned by Derek and Peggy Burns, continues to be a blessing to our community. Derek and Peggy consistently go above and beyond to support local organizations, community activities and people throughout Story.

Supporting the Story Store is another way of supporting people who continually give back to Story.

4:00 p.m. until gone — Women’s Club Pie and Ice Cream at the Story Woman’s Club

After your hamburger or hot dog, save some room for one of Story Days’ longtime favorites—pie and ice cream at the Story Woman’s Club.

4:00–7:00 p.m. — Story Days Silent Auction at the Story Art Station

Stop by the Story Art Station and check out this year’s Silent Auction. You may find something you can’t leave without while helping support Story Days.

Wendy Auzqui Brings World Championship Stock Dog Experience to Story

At 5:00 p.m., Story Days will feature one of Friday’s most unique events—a live sheep dog demonstration by World Championship Stock Dog Trainer Wendy Auzqui.

Wendy will demonstrate the remarkable partnership between a handler, livestock and a highly trained Border Collie.

In 2019, Wendy and her Border Collie, Frank, won the World Championship Stock Dog Trial in Calgary. During my recent conversation with Wendy for the Story Journal, she talked about the teamwork required between dog and handler and how, when everything comes together, working livestock can almost become a dance.

Spectators will also get a firsthand look at how trained stock dogs respond to commands and use instinct, positioning and controlled pressure to move livestock.

The Nate Champion Band Takes the Stage Tonight

Story Days continues into the evening with The Nate Champion Band performing from 8:00–11:00 p.m. at the Story Art Station.

The Nate Champion Band is a five-piece multi-genre jam band from Sheridan, Wyoming, playing original music and bringing a wide range of musical influences to the stage.

It should be a great night to gather with friends and neighbors, enjoy some live Wyoming music and close out the first day of Story Days.

Story Days Is About Community

Story Days has always been about more than a list of events.

It is about neighbors seeing neighbors, local organizations working together, businesses supporting the community and volunteers giving their time to preserve an annual tradition that means something to Story.

From hamburgers, hot dogs, pie and ice cream to championship stock dogs and live music, today is just the beginning of Story Days 2026.

Come out, support our local organizations and businesses, visit with friends and neighbors, and help us celebrate Story the Beautiful.
