There’s something special happening here in Story, and the Story Volunteer Fire Department would love to invite you to be part of it. On Saturday, April 26th at 1:30 PM, come on down to the Story Library Resource Center for a free,
educational event where we’ll be showing a powerful film called Fire Forest.

This isn’t just another movie—it’s an eye-opener about how we can work together to protect our beautiful community from wildfires. The focus will be on fire mitigation and how homeowners can clean up and care for their own private property to help reduce the risk. After the film, we’ll be hearing from two experienced professionals: Paul Wright, our local Fire Mitigation Coordinator, and Jon Warder from the Forest Service. These men know their stuff, and they’ll be sharing real steps we can all take to make our properties safer.
Another meaningful event to keep on your radar is Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters, which runs from April 27th through May 4th. During this week, we’re asking all our neighbors in Story to shine a red light on their porch at night as a way of honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty. It’s a simple act, but one that speaks volumes. Let’s come together as a community and show our respect by lighting up our little town in red.
And hey—while you’re marking your calendar, don’t forget about Saturday, June 1st! That’s the day of the Story Yard Sale, and the fire department will be serving up lunch at the station. Come hungry and ready to enjoy some good food made by good people. The food will be served until it’s gone, so make sure you swing by early to get a plate and show your support for our local heroes.
These events are more than just dates on the calendar—they’re opportunities to gather, to learn, to honor, and to give back to the folks who protect us every single day. The Story Volunteer Fire Department isn’t just a team; they’re our neighbors, our protectors, and the heart of our community. So come on out, bring a friend, and be part of something meaningful. We’ll see you there.
Don't forget to keep your eye on the community calendar for upcoming events.
