HOW OUR GROUP WAS ORGANIZED

All interested community members got together in October, 2008 for our first fundraiser.  The Teka Brock Band and many other local musicians played to benefit the Story Recycling Group.
Petitions were signed with over 400 signatures in support of recycling efforts in the community.

Our first goal was to get recycling bins so that the Story Community could have a local place to bring their recycling to.  Many residents would be more apt to recycle if bins were available locally and they did not need to haul their recycling to Sheridan.

In 2009, our first meeting was with Shanon Short, an employee from the Sheridan City Landfill, who brought us information on the costs of bins and what the landfilll would accept.

Shanon came with good news...the City Landfill was considering donating recycling bins and a trailer to hold them to the Story Group.

At a later meeting Charles Martineau from the Sheridan City Landfill and Rod Liesinger from Sheridan Public Works attended a meeting along with our very own Doug Madison from the Story Fire District.  It was agreed something could be worked out.

At our next meeting a decision was made on where the bins would be placed and Smoky Schroder offered to sell a horse trailer to the group.  The group voted to purchase it and donate it to the Story School Cans for Kids as their trailer was not big enough for the amount of cans that were being brought to it.

The Story School Kids showed up on May 9, 2009 to paint the trailer and help with cleaning up the chosen site.

On that day the Story Recycling Group and Community Members...young, old, and in between...showed up bright and early to clean up the site for the new bins and trailer.
