STORY LIONS CLUB HISTORY

The Story Lions Club was chartered October 9, 1957.  Forty members made up the original membership.  The Sheridan Lions Club was the sponsor.  The club has been an active force initiating and helping with many projects in the Story Community ever since.

Some of the projects undertaken through the years are:

  • Helping with the construction, finances and maintenance of the Story Library

  • Repairing and repainting the Story Woman's Club Building

  • Repainting the Story Fire Department building

  • Helping with the maintenance and expenses of the old Game and Fish Department picnic area

  • Providing labor, time and money to help improve the Story Centennial Park by providing a second steel shelter, installing fire pits and benches, spreading yards of sand for the playground

  • Construction of a rock and steel Story entrance monument

  • Sponsoring Cub, Girl and Boy Scouts

  • Helping with arrangements to get eyeglass examinations for underprivileged Story school children

  • Providing college scholarships for Story-Banner students

  • Installation of new county Fire Department address locater numbers

  • Conducting the semi-annual highway cleanup of seven miles of county and state roads

  • Co-sponsor of Story Day

  • Lions of Wyoming Foundation

The Story Lions Club raises money for the various projects by having raffles, broom sales, garage sales, pancake suppers, chili-bingo suppers, light bulb sales, flea markets and from local donations.

The Story Lions Club sponsored the Buffalo Lions Club and helped them celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2004.  Story Lions Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2007!
